Tamron (70-200 f/2.8 di vc (nikon)) issues

14 December 2018 - 03:09 PM

Good afternoon! I'm in need of a little assistance from some of you folks with good eyes. To prove that I'm not going crazy. I'm having fits with Tamron Support over getting a 70-200mm f/2.8 di vc (nikon) lens repaired under warranty.

I'll give you the TLDR version.

The lens has always been very sharp, but a few months ago went soft at f/2.8. Very soft, almost fuzzy. Stopping down to f/5.6 fixes it. The lens hasn't been dropped or knocked around.

Sent it to Tamron, they repaired it, sent it back. Same issue.

Sent it back to Tamron, they requested my camera body. I explained that it happens with both my D750 and my D500. I sent the D500 in to Tamron.

I also sent them some test shots, on a tripod. The person on the phone said they couldn't tell a difference in the photos. I've attached the dropbox link. Take a look and see what you think. You may have to download the photos and zoom to 100% to see what I'm talking about. Dropbox's preview is terrible.

Maybe I am crazy...

I've also attached some 100% shots. Two sets of pics: one at 70mm, one at 200mm, with f/2.8 and f/5.6 versions of both.  I can provide the full size images if needed.

Thanks!
