In Topic: Comparison between 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR & 24-70mm f/4 S

Not 100% sure on this but is one a FX and the other a DX lens, which camera do you want it for.

Is it a crop as my first thought is the effect the cropping/ enlarging  is having on the out of focus areas

The more reach phrase came about when Nikon and others wanted us to give up our full-frame film cameras and buy into the new digital world, sensor manufacturers struggled with making larger sensors so the crop/Dx was launched.

In some ways you can understand why they pushed the more reach myth as buy a new digital camera with a "reduced field of view" would not have worked as well.

Nikon shooter is 100% correct no extra reach with a crop sensor, now unless you are cropping DX from say a D850 you can have more pixels on the subject with DX rather than a cropped FX but thats a different can of worms.

In Topic: what your take on canon coming out with 600/800mm F/11 for mirrorless body

11 June 2020 - 01:47 AM

Not a lot wrong with f11 for a mirrorless contrast based focusing system its if you need to use phase detect it could be a problem, the main problem i see is unless some drastic improvement is made in contrast-detect for lock-on speed you would need to use phase detect for action captures.

Canon will know all the downsides so i guess they have a focus system in the wings that will cope, interesting to see
