I got up early to take some sunrise shots of Superstition Mountain at Lost Dutchman State Park, but it was so overcast the sun never made an appearance. I turned around to see what else I could take a photo of and this saguaro was backlit by the glow of the City of Phoenix, 50 minutes to the west.

At first glance I was not in love with this arrangement, however after giving more consideration I decided to take a chance.
It isn't always easy to comply with the rule of thirds, but I believe this turned out quite well.
Many thanks for viewing.

A friend of mine, and fellow photographer, asked me to take some photos at his engagement party. Event photography isn't usually my thing, but I when he asked I couldn't say no.

I'm jumping in early this week for a change...My wife asked me to see if I could grab some butterfly shots of a couple of butterflies that have been visiting our garden...I took some yesterday with my D4 and 70-200...got some good shots but I wasn't wild about them - really wanted the 105, but had to grab and go when she saw that it had shown up...Here's one from yesterday...
D4, 70-200 @ 190mm, f2.8, 1/2000, ISO 400
Today she called me with a different butterfly and this time I grabbed the Nikon 1...
Nikon 1 V3, 10-100 @ 100mm, f5.6, 1/500, ISO 400
My wife is learning to use the Nikon 1 and I was showing her how to change some of the settings when the new pup came running across the lawn towards us...Of course, I had just set it on Program mode, but it worked out OK...I got a few good ones as he came towards us, but this was my favorite...
Nikon 1 V3, 10-100 @ 100mm, f5.6, 1/640, ISO 400
After that, the dogs settled down, I finished up the quick lesson, got the camera back to Manual and was able to capture my favorite shot of the day...
Nikon 1 V3, 10-100 @ 67.6mm, f5.6, 1/800, ISO 400
And yes, his right eye is blue and his left eye is brown...Now we have lots of thunderstorms rolling through so we're all just chilling in the house...
Quick edit...in case you are wondering, I used the Radial Filter tool to block out the info on the tag which was readable...
