#86747 A category and entries for the Z lenses

Posted by Adam on 14 January 2024 - 12:37 AM

…in the lens database would be good. I have been thinking about shooting some real-life comparisons between the 35/1.8 S, 40/2 and 50/1.8 S and having them in the database would make this easier.

I have added the category here:

https://www.nikonfor...z-mount-lenses/

You should also be able to add lenses directly there.  Please let me know if any changes/additions to the fields are needed.

#82873 can't start a new thread in the b&w forum anymore

Thank you very much, Adam!

Now it worked:  Countryside around Sint-Lievens-Esse - Black and White - NikonForums.com

Is there something I need to do to avoid this from happening again?

Excellent!  No, as long as there is no stray HTML in your post, there's nothing you need to do.

#81826 D7200 & Sigma Lens help/Question

Posted by Adam on 08 January 2023 - 12:25 PM

The focal length never changes, so your 150-500mm lens's focal length is 150-500mm, and your 18-300mm is 18-300mm.  The "crop factor" conversion only comes into play if you're trying to compare what DX/FX lens you would need for your DX camera to get the same field of view as an FX lens on an FX camera, and vice-versa.

This article explains things in more detail and may therefore be helpful:

#81651 D3100 compatible zoom

Screwdrive (AF-D) lenses will not be able to autofocus with the D3100.  You would need to get an AF-S version with a built-in focusing motor, such as this one:

Newer AF-P lenses also won't work.  You might find this chart helpful:

#80953 Number of Exposures Remaining Icon Changes When Shutter Pushed

It means there is room for 26/25 photos in the camera's burst buffer before it will need to pause continuous shooting to save them to the memory card.  Doesn't really matter much unless you're using burst mode.

It looks like dust on the sensor (which becomes more visible the narrower your aperture).  The solution would be to clean the sensor using a blower as a first step, and look into a cleaning kit or professional service if that doesn't help.

#77244 Why not?

It looks like your donation from last month was for some reason not automatically registered.  I've fixed this and you should now have the proper amount of attachment space.  Sorry about that!

#76535 Telephoto Lens Suggestion

Posted by Adam on 03 January 2022 - 11:57 AM

In terms of value I'd say it's hard to beat the Tamron if you are looking for a F2.8 lens:

https://www.bhphotov...m_f_2_8_di.html

At 200mm this is over 10x your base focal length of 18mm, but it certainly won't give you more reach than the 55-300mm.

If you do need more reach there's the Sigma 150-600mm, which is also cheaper but also roughly the same aperture as your existing lens:

https://www.bhphotov..._6_3_dg_os.html

Another consideration which might make things more economical in the long run would be to upgrade the body to something with more sensitive AF / better high-ISO performance.  Then you'd be able to get away with using slower/smaller lenses :)

#76030 Shutter count

It should be low- single or double digits at worst (due to the manufacturer's testing).

#75804 Question on picture size

Posted by Adam on 14 November 2021 - 10:22 PM

If you up-sample a low-resolution photo, it might get accepted by the printer, but technically you're not adding any detail to the photo.  I'd make sure that your camera resolution is in fact set higher than 1620 x 1080 :)

Looks like dust on the sensor- you'll want to clean it, starting with a (manual) blower or using a cleaning kit/professional service.
