I'm very much a beginner and have been given a camera for work and asked to start collecting pictures for job portfolios. I took my first set recently and I guess at some point I closed the flash, meaning half of my images (and there are many) are almost totally black. I've attached one here as an example.

Is there any possible way to 'recover' them and make them usable images? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Did you shoot in raw?

They can probably be recovered, but they will show lots of noise as the signal level is so low.

What software do you have available for processing?

What were the camera settings? (aperture, shutter speed and ISO?)

I think that you don’t have such a bad start, as shutterspeed seems to have been good (not saying perfect :) ) - thus have you been in manual or shutter priority mode?

After having loaded the picture in a photoediting software, the autocorrect did almost half the job automatically.

How much improvements the pictures need - and if they are usable at the end - depends on what use you want to make out of it. (They won’t likely be fine for large prints, but will certainly suit for small size pictures on a website)
