Not so much a problem; more an observation.

Some recent street photography shots was seriously under exposed for no apparent reason.

I did a camera re-set (both green buttons) and all was well.

On checking the Meta data in each of the photographs, I found the shutter speeds showed 10/10000; other shuuter speeds showed 10/2000 and 10/5000 instead of the more usual 1/1000 and 1/2000.

Any explanations?

If you check the EXIF again, what was the exposure compensation set to?

I cannot see an EXIF setting for exposure compensation. Exposure Compensation on camera is set to 0.0.

I have the following :

exif: exposure biasvalue: 0/6

exif: ex[posuremode: 0

exif: exposureprogramme: 2

exif: exposuretime: 10/10000

Attached file showing most of the exif data

The exposure compensation is what Adobe call Exposure Bias and 0/6 is 0.

The strange shutter speed reading might be an editor thing... This illustration shows a .jpg made from the .tif on the right. As you see, 1/125 has become 10/1250 for some reason.

With the EC set to 0, I don't understand the underexposure, unless you used spot metering or matrix and your chosen focus point fooled the meter in some way.

Not to worry, I'm up at the Photo Show at the NEC next week – I'll ask Nikon.

Looks like a bug rather than a feature.
