in d3400, what's the fastest way to switch between single point and auto area?

IIRC the fastest way would be to bring up the quick menu by pressing the"i" button.

Press the "i", use the arrows to muve down one and one to the right where is stays "af-area", press okay, use the arrows to select your desired mode, and press okay again to select.

i know this way. but it takes a million clicks.
i hoped there was a way to toggle between the options quickly.

The problem with the D3xxx cameras when you are starting to grow out of them is that they are so very menu-driven. I think the AF modes are still menu-driven in the D5xxxseries, so you would need to move up to a D7xxx to get the faster press a button and turn a wheel control.
