I recently purchased a Nikon D3400 bundle package which came with the following lenses:

AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens
AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED Lens

I am planning on buying an 18-200mm lens, as if I am traveling light for a hiking trip, I would prefer to have a more versatile lens.  I am considering selling the 18-55 to help pay for the purchase of the 18-200 lens; but before I did, I wanted to see if there were any advantages to using the 18-55 over the 18-200?
(Tamron Auto Focus 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor for Nikon Digital SLR (Model A14NII))

Thank you in advance for your help!

It sounds to me like you are only want to take one lens on your trip.

Given a choice, I would rather have the combined 18-55 and 70-300 rather than the 18-200.  All lenses are a compromise in one way or another.  The super zooms with an extended range from wide to tele (18-200, 18-300, etc) compromise on the quality compared to the shorter range zooms (18-55 / 70-300).  Not suggesting the lenses produce poor images, rather that the image quality isn't as high with the super zooms as with the shorter zooms.

You don't indicate what types of shots you are hoping to capture on the trip, but unless you need the telephoto end, you would be better off with the 18-55 as the one lens you carry with you.

The 18-200 will save you 220g compared to bringing both lenses. I don't feel that the loss in picture quality is worth that small saving.

That said, the 18-55 is very good optically, even if it doesn't feel as solidly built as the more expensive lenses.

here a good idea get use to the two lens you have. it will show where you need to go next for lenses. i still have both my 18-55 and 70-300 i use them based on what is need. i still use 18-55 since give me lower end reach since 35 and 50mm have longer reach. plus they are both good starter lens to learn from. after shoot for awhile you find what type of pictures you want to take and from that spot will lead to what your next lens should be.

Actually, it depends on what type of work you are up to. If you have an D 18-200 mm lens then I don't think you need an 18-55 mm lens
