Repairing a 300mm f4.5 AI-S

I'm trying to reach a small spot of fungus behind the second lens element from the front. I've managed to remove the front element ok, but see no way of removing the next one. There's no obvious locking ring to undo, and it doesn't simply fall out. Does it unscrew perhaps? I'm nervous of making a mistake and damaging the glass. Any advice is appreciated.
