D850 stuck on DX mode

Normally I am use an FX lens, but the D850 got stuck on DX when a fast DX lens was tested out on the camera and would not allow me to switch back to FX. Had to reset back to factory default settings. Anyone else experienced that before? Why did it occur? What did you do to fix it?
