We've had a similar challenge for the last couple of years, and it is fantastic to see everyone's best/favorite work.

Cheers, Peter, for getting this started. These "best of the year threads" are always among my favorites! And so far--wow! Your photos blow me away. I don't have as many to choose from this year since I haven't been very active with my camera, but here are a few of my favorites...

The last photo isn't necessarily one of my best photos, but it is a favorite because it's the first time one of my photos has been featured on a billboard. Super gratifying!

Some of these aren't about the technical quality of the picture, they are more about how I feel when I see them. The image of Denali is a great example.  Going to Alaska was a bucket list item for me and we went last June.  I had a list of 30 different places where it was possible to see Denali.  I had worked my way through most of the lists.  We even spent two full days in the park without a glimpse of the summit.  On the train ride south from Denali to Anchorage we past yet another place where it was possible to see the peaks.  I stood up turned around with no expectation at all.  I didn't even have my camera in hand, yet there it was, over 100 miles away and as massive and dominating as I could image.  I grabbed the bag and pulled out the camera and snapped as many tourist photos as I could through the glass dome of the moving train.  Its a terrible image from a technical standpoint but it is my memory of Denali.  I may have another opportunity but I hope I never lose the adrenalin surge that occurs every time I look up and see that image.

I am humbled by the skill I see in these pages on a daily basis.  I'd like to thank each of you for participating and sharing your talent with this group.  A special thanks to Nicole for your kind shepherding of this group and maintenance of our spirit, essence and focus.   Happy New Year, I can't wait to see your work in 2018!

First is a pair of images of the Neuse River...The first is an iPhone photo, but I love the comparison between the width of the Neuse near Raleigh, North Carolina (first image) and the width of the Neuse near where it enters the Pamlico Sound

 

    

 

Second is a pair of images taken a few days apart of the moon...

 

     

 

The next set of three images, all taken on the same day...It was quite a foggy morning...

 

 

But that left some drops of dew on the flowers and eventually led to one of my favorite sunsets...

 

    

 

And lastly, one of my favorite images of the year...probably good enough that I might even try to wake up and take a few more sunrise photos...but I think I'll let it warm up first!
