Every lens will only get better with a calibration. If you try them and focus doesn't seem to hit the mark then it's something to look at. If it's all fine then no real need to bother.

You can get software like Reikan FoCal that will take the guess work out of it (but costs money). But the simplest way is to put a ruler on a table, shoot at it on a 45 degree angle wide open to get as narrow depth of field as possible, pick you target on the ruler and focus on that and take a shot (or series of shots would be better). This will allow you to easily see if where you are actually in focus is before or after the intended focus position. And you can go into the camera and dial in some + or - as needed. Takes a little trial and error. Having the camera on a tripod eliminates any movement, just DON'T use the live view for focusing as this is a different system (and more accurate).

Actually I just realised you have a D500. It has this built into it. Have a look through your manual. It is super easy and automatic (although not 100% foolproof).

The 35-70 should work. The Sigma might work, or not... I think Nikon have extended the lens communications protocol at least twice since that lens was made in the early 90-s. Even if Sigma came up with solutions to keep the lenses usable, these required rechipping and I am not sure if they still offer that service for consumer lenses they sold a quarter of a century ago.
