Hey everyone,

I'm fairly new to photography (roughly 2 years). I'm spent some time trying to understand camera mechanics, composition, gear, and post-production. I believe I have a basic understand on all those subjects. Hopefully your critique will make me understand even more.

I took this shot while on vacations to Greece. We were at the beach some time after noon, so the sunlight was quite harsh. Luckily, the beach umbrella acted like a diffuser (didn't plan for this but the result is quite smooth). I used my D5500, with a Nikon 50mm f1.8 prime.

* 35mm focal length: 75mm

* Aperture: f2

* Exposure: 1/1250

* ISO: 100

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. I also experimented with a tighter crop around the head, but for some reason I like the dynamics of the current crop.

I don't like the hat so close to the top and right, especially with all the negative space you have on the left. I think you could keep the magnification you have in the B&W by simply moving the image down and to the left. You could simply move that area of her middle back where the straps meet the back of her clothing, keeping only the straps and her skin in the frame.

Other than that I think it is a great shot.

I think you did her proud with that one, hope she likes it.

Its been said different framing may have worked better, i do wildlife so ime happy if some one says ime wrong but this is more the crop i would have gone for, then i made a very quick and rough selection so i could clean the back ground up, it could be better if i had taken more time but it may give you some ideas

Obviously i will remove this if you want me to, i just think its easier to show rather than trying to explain

Agree with the comments above...nice image and I like the B&W option but I would crop so she is looking into the photo instead of out of the photo - something similar to what mikew posted...

Ok... I also lightened the shadows just a bit.

OK, so I guess there's an agreement on the cropping situation. Thanks everyone for your input :)
