I plan to use the D500 for filming kingfishers diving, at 60fps and use the individual frames as pictures. (I learned about this technique from other bird photographers)
The problem is that the shutter speed seems to be fixed at 1/60.
I am using a Nikkor 200-500mm lens and would like to set the shutter speed at 1/1000.
Is this possible? It is possible on the D7200, so I assume it must be possible for the D500.
Any help?

It should be possible, you may need to put the camera in S or M mode though.

What settings are you using?  I am not a video person so I have no idea if you can set your aperture, shutter and ISO manually, but I would expect you can.  It sounds like you are allowing the camera to determine your settings though...It would be helpful if you could share those settings...

If you want to shoot with a shutter speed of 1/1000, you will need to adjust your aperture and ISO accordingly to keep a correct exposure.  As far as it being possible on a D7200, is that using the same or a different lens?  I would say that whomever has the D7200 can probably show you how to adjust those settings - if they are using a different lens, your settings will likely be different, but it would be a similar process to adjust the settings.
