I have been scouring the universe in search of reviews for this Nikon Lens.  Interestingly enough there are many glowing reports along with a few not so glowing reports.  If anyone has any experience with this item, I would greatly appreciate any info offered.  Should I purchase this lens, I am planning on marrying to my yet to buy Nikon D200 body.  Just as an FYI, KEH is offering 25% off of their Black Friday equipment, ending at midnight tonight along with a full year warranty as long as the purchase is made through 12/31/2017.  Not a plug for KEH, only an FYI.

Many thanks,

TT

Tony, have you seen this thread? Is the Nikkor 55-300mm that bad? - Beginner Questions - NikonForums.com

If you look at the date of the reports, you will probably find that the glowing reports were made during the 12 MP era and the not so glowing are later. It is adequate on a D300(s), D90 or earlier but the later sensors reveal it's softness at the tele end, especially the unforgiving sensors without a low-pass filter.

Hi Peter,

Anything earlier than the D90 will be going to a lower mp count.  The D80 is 10.3mp, and the D70/s are 6.1mp.  I believe I will stay with the equipment I have.

Thanks a million, sir.

Here is a link to some useful information regarding MegaPixels.  Please read all the way through as it does offer some great insight on the subject "How much is enough and how little is enough?"

Hey thanks very much for uploading and sharing some wonderful photography.  I should have gone ahead and purchased both the D200 and the 55~300mm Nikon Lens.

Happy Holidays.
