First of all, it is f/2.8, not f/2. Unlike the earlier MicroNikkors, it is sharp enough at longer distances to double as a portrait lens, even if the dedicated portrait lenses have a wider max aperture, giving a shallower DOF and are optimized for the distances involved in portraiture, giving a nicer background blur.
