Mallards are migratory, but some population is sedentary or migrate a short distance so they can leave late and return early. I usually see some at least up until mid-December and they start returning mid-January. If the winter is on the mild side, they mostly stay. The Baltic and Scandinavian Mallards are not as uniformly migratory as the American ones.
