Hi Guys and Gals!

I use a Nikon D40 for work product photos and it's been brilliant.

I bought a D3000 and lens when I knocked the D40 over and broke the lens so at least we had a spare body. I continued to use the D40 with the D3000 lens as I preferred the D40 and it kept producing the goods.

About 250,000 shutter actions later, I got the classic "Error, press shutter release again" message.

No problem, I thought..I'll just put the lens back on the D3000 and continue as before. However, it instantly came up with the same error message on the D3000. Both camera were now completely locked up and just showing the error message.

I figured that two camera couldn't be at fault, especially as the 3000 was essentially brand new. I took it into a local camera shop and the guy there put a brand new lens on both bodies. It changed nothing.

I looked online and found that taking the base plate off the camera and working and lubing the red gear wheel could solve it. I did this on the D40 as it was old, and when I put it back together, it clicked over once....then never did anything other than show the error message again!

If we were in lala land, I would swear that the lens was haunted and had transferred the angry spirit over to the nearly new D3000. But of course, we're not...and therefore I'm lost.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance and apologies for the small novel I've just written :)
