D3400 long exposures

I just purchased a D3400, and am learning about how to take long exposures for a trip to Alaska to see the Aura Borealis.  When I went on You Tube, I could not find anything that helped me.

Use a tripod and ideally a remote release. Turn any image stabilization off in your lens, and turn on long exposure noise reduction in the camera.

You'll want to use as fast a lens as possible to keep the iso setting as low as possible to reduce noise, and best to use manual settings and chimp until you get the exposure right.

Perhaps if yous spell it "aurora borealis" or "northern lights" you get some hits:
