DxO announced today that they had acquired the Nik Collection of plug-ins from Google and have already started integrating some Nik features into their own offerings.

How interesting! And here I thought Google was going to just let them die... I see the current collection will remain free. I wonder what DxO will add to the 2018 version that will make it worth spending money on? Or maybe they will just gradually phase them into DxO programs and they will disappear as standalone items? Dunno. Nik is one of my favorite sets of filters--glad to see they'll still be around in some form.

Donno what DxO's end game is here, Nicole. From what little I've read they were mostly interested in obtaining Nik's U-point technology for their own plugs. I agree about not letting them die out. Unfortunately, or so I'm told, they don't work (correctly at least) in the latest versions of Photoshop. So, they need to be updated for Photoshop compatibility at the least. Perhaps for Lightroom as well.

 

It's kind of funny when you think about it. Originally, they were very expensive plugs before Google bought Nik out. Then they went from being very expensive to being a real bargain. Then they went from being a real bargain to being totally (and outrageously) free. Now they could go back to being very expensive again.
