Does anyone have any techniques for looking for cool places for shoots? Is there an app that tells all about nice parks or cool shooting areas? Help appreciated I live in dutchess county/hudson valley Ny area.

Check for Facebook groups and local photography group websites.

Often you will find recommendations for sites and upcoming events.

Check with the local tourist board as well. They can usually help with ideas.

I read an article many years ago... perhaps in Kodak's 'Here's How' book series about this. One suggestion was to scout tourist shops and look at the postcard rack. If there are any photogenic places in your area they have most likely already been photographed ad nauseum. Even if you don't end up photographing from the same spot as the postcard picture, you may find good (or better) locations nearby.
