I have just taken delivery of the D7000 and whilst scrolling through the vast amount of options discovered the Virtual Horizon. im guessing this will actually come in quite handy for getting level landscapes and such, especially in combination with the grid view. As i have not yet had the chance to use it yet, does anyone else have experience of using it and its possible pro`s and con`s? Other than the fact its like being in a cockpit!!

Thanks

I do use it often in my D7100. But remember that it only works like a level which is OK in most cases. But it might happen that either the horizon has a slope or the lines of what you are photographing are not level and that they would still look better if they align with the frame of the camera not the local gravity. It happens quite often.

I never use the VH, I prefer the framing grid to align my shots. If you start worrying if you're level to the degree you paying more attention to the the indicator than the composition you'll just end up with perfectly level snapshot.

I've only been using the grid on my 7100, as this allows me to focus on composition, I then use the grid lines to stay level. Any deviation can be fixed in PS.

I might have to try the virtual horizon out and see what the results look like.
