Looks like a great lens for shooting portraits inside restaurants and clubs without a flash at night.

Don't know about most peopple for my money the 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8 work just fine.
Yes, both great lenses.

Agree with the above...I don't really feel the need for anything faster than my 50 1.8 and 85 1.8. Both very usable wide open.

Even when I've had f1.4 lenses, I never found myself shooting faster than f2.
Especially on full frame. The DOF is too thin at 1.4, in my opinion, for what I shoot. I could see most people getting a hold of this lens and being disappointed and thinking it wasn't worth the money, but for those that will use it for astrophotography, it is invaluable. You need to let in as much light as possible and you don't want to deal with the soft corners, light falloff or flare that you'd get in most lenses at wide aperture. These can be used for dramatic effects in other photographic disciplines. DOF is not an issue when your subjects are lightyears away. It's a specialty tool, not a lens they intend to sell very many copies of. The 50/1,8D is a much better option for my photography, at 1/16 the price.
