Hi,

I am a complete photography dummy, but for the past year I have been quite active in viewing and photographing birds when out on trips.

I have a Nikkor AF-P 70-300 VR lense, and a D3300 body. I shoot mostly in sports mode with singe point focus. However the d3300 is needed elsewhere, so I am looking for an upgrade / replacement.

I am looking at either D3400 vs D5600 . I am not very much interested in Wi-fi , multi-media or other bells and whistles.

My primary concern is - in terms of focus speed, image quality and focusing on fast moving objects / birds / would the price premium on D5600 bring adequate benefits?

Thanks everyone!

Yes... 5000 series is noticeably better at tracking focus than 3000.

Have you considered a used 7100/7200?
