I got a WU-1a wireless adaptor for my D7100 and I tried to go into the network setting but it’s greyed out. I have my camera on Manual mode. A. S. or P modes don’t do any good either.

I forgot to say that I have tried to get a connection that is secure but on my iPad, when I select Nikon as the network connection, it say that it’s an unsecured connection. I’ve followed the instructions that say to press the button on the WU-1a for 5 seconds. It says the led wil flash, but it already flashes as soon as the camera is switched on
After pressing the button for 5 seconds, the led flashes red then green. It always says unsecured connection on my iPad, hence the reason for trying to access the network setting on my D7100. I wanted to enable the wps setting in the network sub menu.

I’ve just found the answer to my own question;
To un-grey-out the network submenu under the setup menu, you need the Nikon Ut-1 comunications unit. As far as I can tell though, it does much the same thing as the WU-1a but for a much higher price of £375!
I got my WU-1a wireless thingy for £25 + postage . Got it working with the qdslr dashboard app which I managed to find out how to make a secure connection with. Works really good too! Funny thing is! It lagged quite a bit unti I made the connection secure, now it runs smoothly. Doesn’t take too long to transfer photos from the D7100 to my iPad.
