The difference in mass is substantial. The 80-200D is 1300g, the 180/2.8 is 760. The zoom is 87 x 187mm, the prime is 78.5 x 144.

The 180/2.8 is definitely on my ‘wants’ list. I’ve never actually handled one though. To be honest, 300mm suits me a lot better for pics of the dogs although cropping them isn’t much of an issue if they’re just going up on Facebook or whatever. Once I’ve figured out the best way to get the pics off the D2X (and it’s DX sensor) I guess the zoom will end up being 300mm equivalent, at the long end, anyway!

On that subject, I think I’ll buy a CF-SD adaptor. I’m I right in thinking the D2X will accept both types (I & II) of CF card?

The D2X works with Type I, Type II, and Microdrive, but not with capacity over 32 GB.

I am a touch behind, but actually joined in for this week using my D4 and 24-70...I hope to have them up here tomorrow!

As stated above, I joined in during this week with one of my D4 bodies and my 24-70 lens.  I knew there were several different things I wanted to photograph during the week and weekend and I knew that my 24-70 lens was the right choice for some of them and the wrong choice for others!  I figured it would be a fun challenge...

First off would be a full moon.  I heard some folks say Blood Moon and I heard others say Harvest Moon, whatever you want to call it, the moon was big and beautiful.  But, not so big that I could fill the frame on a 400mm, let alone at 70mm...So, I tried a few different exposures to get the reflection on the water...

On Friday, we went to the local brewery for a free concert by Mojo Collins.  I believe he said he was 74 and has been performing for over 50 years.  He is now mostly playing original blues music.  He was a very good guitarist and we really enjoyed his music.

His performance basically kicked off the "Ol' Front Porch Music Festival" in Oriental.  Lots of free music all around town - most literally on front porches and all outdoors  - Friday night and all day Saturday.  There was one indoor show at the local theatre where you had to purchase tickets and it sold out as well.  On Saturday, the main stage was down just across the road from a park on the Neuse River.

Last band of the day was the Red Clay Ramblers...Bluegrass, folk, jazz, blues, pretty much a bit of everything with some very talented musicians, each of whom played multiple instruments during their two hour show...

I played around a bit trying to catch the water splashing off some of the rocks on the coast of the Neuse...

Lastly, my wife had a strange visitor to her Hummingbird feeder...

Definitely interesting trying to shoot the musicians and the moon with the 24-70 but it was fun at the same time and I think I learned a few things....
