Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 3 September 2017, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. The editing exercises are taking a break for the summer, but feel free to play around in the old exercises.

P.P.S. Peter is running a fun single lens challenge that we are all invited to participate in. August is normal prime lens month! We've got a few days left...

Took this a while ago but only now getting around to processing it. Was from a shoot to promote the work of a makeup artist.

Cheating and posting two because they go together. Fountain on the Sam Houston State University campus in Huntsville, Texas. Really cool, changes shape constantly, sometimes concave, sometimes convex. And with the wind blowing it made some really incredible shapes.

Curly tailed lizard.  A local resident.  Seems like everytime I approach it allows me to get just a little closer.

Double dipping.

This hibiscus bush is right outside my home office window.  I see it everyday, which means, most days I don't see it at all.  I love my new d7500 camera, but what I really love is that I am seeing the beauty around me again through this "box with a hole".

Unfortunately, some PPE was required for this photo.  The background was much too bright and seemed to dilute the beauty of the entire photograph.

Taken with Canon t5 and Canon 55~250mm, IS II Lens.

1/30s, ISO 100, Normal Exposure Mode, Focal length @55mm, no flash and used Multi-Segment Metering.

This scene was shot handheld with a slow shutter speed.

Thanks for viewing.

I'm going to submit a whole story this week.  I got up before the sun this morning to go hike a trail with several waterfalls.  After all the "mundane" talk this week, I wanted to find a more dramatic, compelling subject and waterfalls usually fit the bill.  This is sort of what I had in mind, although I was hoping for more water.  I did try some portrait orientation, some with more foreground, etc.  But overall none of them just jumped at me as a "photo with impact".

White Oak Canyon by Mark, on Flickr.  This is an HDR merge of 5 images.  The sun was too high by the time I got here and the shadows were pretty overpowering.

I got started late on my hike because I was distracted by this on the drive to the trail head:

low clouds by Mark, on Flickr.  I stopped at 4 different overlooks for photos to the east and west, and finally started hiking about 2 hours too late.

Last night I was thinking of submitting this for my "best of the week":

But my wife talked me out of it when she said she liked this version better:

mountain stream by Mark, on Flickr.  This is the uncropped version of the previous photo.  That comment helped me decide to go hiking today to look for something better.

In the end, I keep coming back to one of my "mundane" subjects.  This is one of the potted flowers my wife has growing on our deck and the photo was taken mid-week when I did my photo walk around the house.  The color is almost unnatural, but it is a real flower, growing out of real dirt...  :)

Nikon D810, 50mm f/1.4 @ f/4, 1/50", ISO 64

One of these is my best this week, I think, but I'm too tired from hiking to figure out which.   :)

By the way, Deano - love the sunsets.  Especially the first one.

sunshine, I like #3 & 4.  You got away from that glaring sun. You live in beautiful country.  I would have used a neutral density filter on #1, if only to tone down the brightness of the sun on the water.

Thanks for the comments. 3 & 4 were taken Saturday in light rain. No sun that day. I guess I should invest in an ND filter one of these days. Currently though I don't own one. I did have a polarizer on but that doesn't do much for brightness.
