Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 27 August 2017, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. The editing exercises are taking a break for the summer, but feel free to play around in the old exercises.

P.P.S. Peter is running a fun single lens challenge that we are all invited to participate in. August is normal prime lens month!

Nice Peter!

I have three this week - technically the first two were shot on the 19th so I guess they should be posted for the previous week...We were running around quite a bit on Saturday and knew we were going to be busy Sunday as well, so while I had a few minutes, I grabbed my camera to get it setup for shooting on Monday.  It was about then my wife came in and suggested I come out to see the rainbow...

Rainbow-1820.jpg

D4, 24-70 @ 31mm, ISO 800, f4, 1/400

After grabbing some shots of the rainbow, I did the work I had planned and got the camera setup for Monday.  Then my wife suggested I come out to see the sunset...I went to see it - we do get some beautiful sunsets here, so not too unusual...Of course, my camera was definitely NOT setup for a nice sunset photo and I didn't want to miss catching this one...So, I pulled out my trusty phone...This shot is SOOP - Straight Out Of Phone with no crop or edit...

IMG_5129-NoEdit.jpg

Yes, I could have swapped lenses back, but lenses and camera and I were in multiple different locations...I am pretty happy with that shot...In any case, I had setup my camera to shoot the eclipse on Monday.  We were NOT in the path of totality, but we were all together out in our boat, on the water for a few hours during the eclipse which was our primary goal.  My photography was secondary, but something I wanted to try.  It worked out pretty well for hand holding my D4 and Nikon 70-200 on a moving boat - not moving fast, but drifting on some slightly choppy water...

Eclipse-1925.jpg

D4, 70-200 @200, ISO200, F8, 1/320, manual focus, LiveView  - Cropped but basically SOOC

I chose that one as that was about as close to totality as we got.  Not great, but not too bad...just wanted to see what I could do with my options...Held the film-style eclipse filter on with the lens hood :)!  I had a few photog friends go to specific locations to shoot - one digital who got some GREAT shots and another who shot film - still waiting to see those...

Oh well...back to work!

I haven't figured out yet how to photoshop these into a single image but this is my Solar Eclipse 2017 sequence.   Sloppy focus after 3 hrs showed up in the 2nd to last image, and focus on the palm fronds on the final image left the sun fuzzy.

Nikon d7500

Nokor 70-200m all at 200m

Firecrest 77mm Eclipse Filter ND5.4, 18 stop

f/11, mostly 1/400, or 1/640

ISO100

All photos cropped

Today I'm photographing my son's latest motorcycle build that he completed this week.  I'm experimenting with my new speedlight and radio trigger for some off-camera flash.

What a cool bike. I'd never own it,  but I love looking at it.

Daryl - thanks for the comment.  I owe you a big thanks for your help in getting set up with my first speedlight.  The radio trigger really made the difference.  I can now see a need for one or two more lights, umbrellas, softboxes...  It never ends, does it.  And Adorama is offering a trade-up deal on pre-orders for the new D850.  Tempting...

Here's one more from this morning.  My son and I went up to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park.  I had thought that this location might make a good backdrop for this particular bike.  I think it worked pretty well.

Sunshine, I'm thinking of buying a used 810.  Let me know what adorama will give you and maybe we can work a deal.  I will be on the east coast this Sept or Oct to visit family.  Maybe a hook up perhaps?

This will be a two photo series.  Hope you enjoy.

#1.  Me and my Grandpa.  Looks like my Grandpa is checking me for dandruff.   :))  My Grandpa loves me.   :))

#2.  My Grandpa and me settling down to take a nap.  I love my Grandpa. :))

I apologize for the obstruction by the sign, however I was afraid of losing the moment.  I do not normally photograph people, but this was too precious to let it slip through my fingers.

Thanks for viewing.  TT

Deano - while the trade deal is tempting it's not very practical for me right now.  What I really want is the chubby 200mm f/2 and buying a D850 would put that even further out of reach.  Adorama's deal is offering up to $1350 for a D810.  I still see them going for $2k on other sites, so it's not a great deal.  Prices will probably drop as supply picks up once the D850s start shipping.  For now, I think I'll hang on to mine.

It's that time of the year when salmon swim up streams to spawn and die, in this case Pinks.
