I recently purchased a Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 EX DC HSM Lens to use with my Nikon D5300. I have taken a number of pictures with it, but on some occasions some distant objects in the images are sometimes out of focus when using it at 10mm, even when using a larger f stops for wider DOF..

I have not had such a wide-angle lens before, is there something that I am missing in using these types of lenses?

I also have a Nikon 18-140mm Zoom lens and when I use that at 18mm, the images are always pin-sharp.

Looking for some guidance, for example is there a particular setup/technique for using Sigma lenses that differ from Nikon lenses.

Any comments, suggestions, ideas, pointers most welcome.

regards

Mike

For best answering the question, it would be usefull that you could post some of the problematic pictures.

What settings do you use for focussing?

The reason why to ask this question is that at 10mm you have a very wide field of view. So it can well be that while one key object is in focus, a second key object is not. Also if the camera tries to identify the best *average* focusdistance on different objects, the average might not fit any specific key object (the lens will focus on one single distance for good focussing).

On the other hand, any lens can have a misalignment resulting in front- or backfocussing. Cameras therefore offer the possibility to memorize a corrective factor for a given lens. But for helping you on this we would need to see sample pictures (with full EXIF data and you mentioning what you focussed on)

Hi Jerry,

Yes, understand what you are saying, will review the images I took and see what the EXIF data shows and then I will get some images sorted out and attach to another reply for review.

Kind Regards

Mike
