okay i have good question that need to be ask. people of my paintball board do not think taking pictures of sun or solar eclipse will hurt the camera equipment. to told it will ruin digital sensor. but they do not believe me. so in need prof of this from you guys or place that could give good remark on this since i get he said she said over internet. i been warming people about this. but do not believe me on this issue.

If they're talking about smartphone cameras with wide angle lenses or DSLR's and point & shoot cameras with wide angle lenses, then they might be able to shoot the sun without a solar filter. That is, after all, how we get sunstars in our photos. But for extended shooting, I really can't recommend aiming a camera without solar protection at the sun. Especially if you're using a telephoto lens, in which case you would be risking more than your camera's sensor. You would also put your eyesight at risk.
Personally, if you're shooting the solar eclipse, I would recommend doing so through a certified solar filter.
