When using an 18-55mm lens with my D5100, there is a whirring noise which occurs in video mode when VR is on. However when VR is off the noise goes.

Does anyone else experience a similar issue, or know how to resolve it?

Many thanks

It's pretty common for VR equipped lenses to make a "whirring noise" when the motors that drive the VR element(s) are engaged. The only way to keep it from being picked up in the camera's audio track when recording video is to get a better (or off camera) microphone.
