Thanks for invite, well just learning the controls on my first Nikon, its a D5200 with a 18-55 lens. Hope to learn a bit from here before upgrading to a better lens.

Welcome!

The 18-55 isn't bad, optically. In fact it works remarkably well for such a small, light zoom lens. The mechanical feel is another matter.

There is no hurry to replace the lens you have, in fact you might well have three lenses or so that complement it before you *need* another zoom. The D5200 and 18-55 works quite well for street photography, much better than a D7xxx with a 18-140 or a D750 with the 24-120 simply because it is small and unobtrusive.

Welcome, glad to have you here. I like that lens on my D5500, and I think you'll like it on your D5200.

The 35/1.8 is on the short side as a classic "portrait lens", but portraits have been shot with normal lenses for decades. If you want to give your new lens a workout, august is normal prime month in my One week... minichallenge. Just go out and shoot anything and everything with your new prime, play with it and explore what *you* can do with it. Share what you get in the weekly threads in the Minichallenges subforum.
