I recently bought a D3400 Camera and also bought an AF Nikkor 70-300mm Lens, according to where it came from it has Auto Focus but when I go to change the setting on the camera, the option to change is dull and will not allow me to select it. I want to switch it from Manual to Auto Focus. The other lens that came with the camera works fine.

What version of the 70-300 is it exactly? There were some early versions that didn't have a focus motor in the lens, instead relying on a motor in the body that your D3400 doesn't have.

If the lens is any of the versions without VR, I think your lens and camera won't work fully together.
