Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 2 July 2017, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. The editing exercises are taking a break for the summer, but feel free to play around in the old exercises.

P.P.S. Peter is running a fun single lens challenge that we are all invited to participate in.

Here's one from me that needed more work in post than I want to for the one week... series.

gallery_1251_413_516415.jpg

Model: NIKON D300
Lens (mm): 55 (MicroNikkor 55/3.5 Ai)
ISO: 560
Aperture: 8
Shutter: 1/125

Picture Control: D2X Mode3

Slightly cropped, contrast raised, exposure lowered, shadows protected and the spectral response and tone curves tweaked.

Some beautiful photos. By far my fave of the week, even though my daughter sat up right as I pressed the shutter. Nikon D5500, AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D @ f/2.8, 1/160s, ISO 800

I'm super late this week--been traveling though, so I sort of have an excuse. :)

Lovely images from you all, I must say!

Peter, I am really digging that 55mm--your "one camera..." thread was gorgeous.

Tony, you've mastered the ever-difficult red, I think. Nicely done!

Mark, spectacular!!! More exclamation points!!! I will not be posting any of my fireworks shots because they would pale in comparison. (Btw, where does "Squirrel Toast" come from?)

Chris, that's such a sweet shot--I love to see candid moments like this one. And the light on her face is so lovely!

I was in Idaho all weekend (just got back this afternoon), and we took a day trip up to the ghost town of Bannack, Montana. Pretty cool place. We didn't stay as long as we would have liked because the mosquitoes were eating us alive. So miserable... Since it's not far from my father's house, we'll go back and try again sometime--with bug spray, of course.

Being a bit self-indulgent here and posting another one or two...

All taken with the D810, Nikkor 24-70mm lens.

If you're ever in southern Montana, it's worth a trip out to Bannack. It's a decently preserved ghost town, and you really are free to wander most of the buildings there.

Nicole - thanks for the comments.  After seeing your milky way shots I'm sure your fireworks photos would be better than mine.  I would have preferred to use slower shutter speeds, but taking photos from a rocking boat deck doesn't really allow for that, especially at night.

I love the ghost town photos.  We visited a few in Colorado many years ago.  I'd love to re-visit with a camera in hand.

Squirrel Toast came about when my son finally badgered me into signing up on Instagram.  I used my "combine two random words" method usually reserved for password selection, and applied it to my user name selection this time.  Squirrel toast was what popped into my head.  Believe it or not, squirreltoast was already taken on Instagram.  I had to settle for "squirreltoast.123".  Now it's a reminder not to take this photography thing too seriously.  There are way too many photos out there that are much better than mine for me to start thinking that mine are good.  :)

Those are gorgeous, Nicole. Love the shot of the barber's chair with the light coming through what looks like old leaded glass.

I promise they are not. Your shot above is fantastic--I have nothing that comes remotely close to that. (Should go delete all the fireworks shots I took this week, in fact. They are boring and not very well exposed.) It gives me something to think about and work on though... And your photos ARE good. The comparison game can keep us appropriately humble, but it can be damaging too--the trick is to keep it healthy, eh? :)

Thanks! Lots of the glass appeared to be old with all that neat-looking waviness. I don't know if that is something that restoration experts try to replicate or if what we were seeing was genuinely antique glass...might be interesting to find out. Anyway, it was a fun adventure.
