Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 25 June 2017, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. The editing exercises are taking a break for the summer, but feel free to play around in the old exercises.

P.P.S. Peter is running a fun single lens challenge that we are all invited to participate in.

Lilly Pad with a Blossom and reflection.   I did  have to crop the picture some.

Nikon D7200 with 80-400mm lens.  Apeture F/8, Shutter Speed 1/1000, ISO 640

Not sure if we can post more than one or not.  If so great if not, ignore one.

Burlington Northern Train along the Mississippi River/Lake Pepin

Nikon D7200 with 80-400mm lens.  Apeture F/10, Shutter 1/1250, ISO 400

I will take any criticism either way.

I haven't been around these parts recently, but I have been taking photos. Actually have quite a few I am working on. But here is one I took for a local makeup artist to advertise their work.

Nice bit of trainspotting there, thcri! That looks like a pretty ride. The detail on your water lily is lovely--that hint of creamy yellow peeking out from the inside is particularly appealing.

Darryl--good to see something from you again! Gorgeous, flawless work, as always. The makeup artist will surely be thrilled to see this!

Thank you Nicole.   When I started out a couple of years ago I pretty much only did Trains.  I really don't know how many train pictures I have.   The water lily is from a State Park that I frequent just in last four months.  I have gotten a few animals in this park also including Trumpeter Swans.

Nice one, Cjtamu! I like the detail on that. Wonder if we have any milkweed around here--that seed pod is pretty neat. Just had a quick little Google exercise to find out about the bug--sound like they are beneficial bugs. We put ladybugs in our gardens around here for organic pest control--is the assassin bug also used that way?

Thank you. I don't know if they put them in intentionally or not. Will ask the Enchanted Forest folks next time we go out there. Kim actually joined and posted a photo here too. Just waiting for moderator approval since her first post was this morning.

First of all... Great composition, color, DOF. Very nice.

But it looks soft to me... is that just what uploading to these forums do, or does it look soft to you at your end?

You are correct, it does look a little soft.  This is what happens to me, I do not know about others.  I even tried to way overexpose it and it was uploaded the way it wanted to be uploaded.  I think I might try uploading to Flickr and see what the results are.  Thanks,

When y'all say a photo looks "soft", are you talking about crispness/definition in the photo? Seem to lose some of that when I upload photos here. Beautiful photo BTW, Tony. You have a way with flowers, have been admiring your work for a bit now.

I was not able to get the camera out all week, so yesterday the wife and I spent the morning in the mountains and the afternoon at the lake.  Learned a little about "wake surfing".  Here's a couple of illustrations of the day.

Yes, the term "soft" means slightly out of focus, or not very sharp.  Thank you very much for your kind words.  Greatly appreciated.

Today, I was at my brother's...

Tony, and others who discuss sharpness on the site. If you don't get crisp results, you can try uploading to your gallery space and hotlinking from there, using the BBCode.

Hello, if I may interject, it is my understanding that the Assassin Bug mostly targets honey bees. :(((.

I've never heard that, Tony. Far as I know they're a beneficial insect, and I don't think destruction of honeybees would be considered beneficial. Guy that used to work for us is a beekeeper, I'll see if I can get hold of him. Tried to link to an article from A&M Horticulture, but can't get it to paste.

One of the subspecies is a bee predator, the others hunt aphids and other unwanted insects.
