Hi All,

I've recently noticed some softness on my 70-200 shot on my d810, so I set up an autofocus test to fine tune it.  What I learned during this test, is that the lens and camera are performing fine at short distances but focus becomes quite soft at longer distances.  I tried the same test on my 24-70 and got the same results. This leads me to believe that AF Fine Tune will not be helpful, as adjusting for long distance could have an adverse affect on short distance.  I'm wondering if this is a known problem with the camera body, in which AF after a certain distance becomes miscalibrated.  I called Nikon tech support and wasn't able to get any useful info, so here I am! Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is it really soft or is it haze you see? Please post samples, both full photos and 10% crops. If you really lose contrast at longer distances, your lens needs to go on the bench for calibration as the Fine Tune will affect all distances.

The D810 is the only Nikon camera that would need calibration really, so I agree with Nikonian.
