Back before I broke my iPad 3, I used to use it for most of my photo post-processing. My wife just bought me a new 2017 iPad, not the Pro, the basic one (very nice machine, incidentally and incredibly quick compared to the 3). However, it has a Lightning connector, rather than the old 30-pin and so my original camera connection kit won't work.
I don't want I buy Apple's SD card reader because it's the type with a short cable and I've had Apple's similar HDMI adaptors which are £40 and last about three months.
I've tried two 3rd party SD/USB adaptors, one didn't do anything and today's one imports six pics and then announces that 'this accessory is not supported by this iPad' - clearly a lie because if it can import six, it should be able to import sixty, or six hundred!
Anyone know a fix for this (not the flight mode one, I've tried that) or know a third party adapter which actually works?

Okay, it's a workaround rather than a fix but, after further playing around, I've discovered the following...
It would appear that the IPad's rejection of the device is time-based, it'll accept it for a while and then display the error message and stop working. Using it as an SD card gives enough time to import six or eight pics. However, plugging the USB cable straight from the camera to the device loads the pics much quicker and I was able to load over 100 files before it was rejected! I'll accept that for now.

I have occasionally used the SD card reader from Apple and so far it has worked fine even so I have it for a few years.
I bought one when I still had my iPad2 (thus with the old style connector) which has no cable but directly connects to the plug on the iPad - not the best design because it can easily break if you don't pay attention, so I am always putting my iPad flat on the table when inserting and during the transfer.
When I bought the Air2 I just added the adapter from the old connector to the new lighning port, as I also had a few other adapters which I wanted to reuse. This resulted in an even riskier construct for being broken, but so far it has worked.
As mentioned, when using it, the iPad is put flat on the table for avoiding to break it. Also I only use it rarely (when not at home for more than a week) but wanting to scroll through photos taken.
But so far the genuine one worked fine
