Hello,

I turned on the camera, removed the lens cover and looked through the viewfinder and it is blank, other than the usual screen info.

I tried taking pictures; the camera operates as normal, except the picture is blank.

On the very RARE occasion the screen/viewfinder worked – i.e. showed the view thru the lens, as it should, I was able to take a picture.

But this did not last, and reverted back to a blank view.

I tried a fully charged battery & switch camera on and off several times, reset the settings, removed battery over night, but sadly it made no difference.

Thank you

Dave Gosling

The P610 has an electronic viewfinder so anything shown on the viewfinder and/or the LCD screen needs will have been first captured by the sensor, as does the capture that will be stored on the memory card.

While I would have suspected some problems in the electronic circuits, the fact that on very rare occasions when the viewfinder worked you could also take captures make me rather think of a loose electronic contact at the output of the sensor or the image processing circuit, or a micro crack on a circuit. Obviously this is only a guess based on the description.

In my opinion you need to turn it in for repair to get it fixed. But I would ask for an estimate first to see if it is worth the operation.

Thank you for your reply Jerry - it will be on its way to Nikon very soon. The ONLY thing i can think of, that may have caused the problem - the camera was left on a table in full sun for a while - not sure if this would be the cause, but it is the only thing i can think of.
