Good Day to you all.

I've just registered as a brand new newby, so please be patient.

I have recently received a Nikon D7200 camera with an 18-140mm Nikkor lens as a retirement present, and have been working through the manual and trying the different settings.

I have a problem with the Close-up feature and would like some advice please.

The procedure I'm using is:

1)   Select Close-up in Scene

2)   Select Live view

3)   Adjust lens zoom to 140mm

4)   Ensure that the camera is not within minimum focus range of 0.45M

5)   Auto-focus on subject

6)   Zoom into subject using Plus Button (+)

7)   Auto-focus again

8)   Press Shutter Release

The shot is taken, but when viewed, it's at the zoom level visible before stage 6).

I've searched Google, but can't find an answer.  What am I doing wrong?

Yours

Dave R

The live view zoom only magnifies the image as a preview, but doesn't actually crop it.  You have 2 options to get a more "close up" image: crop the resulting image, or get a dedicated macro lens which can focus closer.

Hi Adam

As the Meerkats say, "Simples".

Thanks for your advice.  I'll try the cropping way initially.
