Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum but I've had my D3500 for about 6 years now. My dad has recently purchased an older model D50 from a friend to come out and join me on days out but we just cannot get it to work. We seem to have tried all settings and options plus reset it twice, but the photos we take show as just a black screen with a purple stripe. We are sure that it isn't the lens as I've used it on my D3500 body and it's working fine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which part of the camera could be faulty? And will it be repairable? Nothing inside the body looks damaged or broken so we are really stumped!
Thanks for taking the time to read!

Does not sound good. I've got a D50 from that era and it works fine but I'm interesting if others here have some idea of what the problem is. I really like the camera, which I bought new.

I had a D50 up until a couple of years ago; remarkably clean images at ISO 200. Unfortunately, it will cost far more to repair than it would to replace.
