D3100 Autofocus issues

I could not find a related thread, so sorry if there is one that I missed.

 

My second body D3100 will not autofocus. The lens and camera are in AF mode and when you hold

shutter for focus the focus wheel spins all the way to the right and then all the way back past infinity and stops. 

 

It's not a lens issue as I have tried other lenses and also those lenses work perfectly on my D7100.

 

It will manual focus with no issues just not autofocus.

 

I've tried every setting AF-S & C etc.. with every focus point, also have cleaned inside of the camera and reset all option to factory.

 

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I guess my first question would be does the rangefinder work when manually focusing?
