Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 28 May 2017, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. The editing exercises are taking a break for the summer, but feel free to play around in the old exercises.

P.P.S. Peter is running a fun single lens challenge that we are all invited to participate in.

I've always had mixed feelings about IR--couldn't quite see the point of it, though I did see some fun and intriguing results. This photo, however, is just fantastic! The IR adds such an intriguing and mysterious element. Really great image, Jerry! Thanks for sharing it!

I don't know if I'll have time to post later this weekend, so I'd better get it done now. I'm in still life mode again. Shot some bread today.

I think I'll go with this one for the week.  It may not be my best photo, but was probably the most exciting.

Also a day late but it is a public holiday here AND it's the only half decent pic I've taken all week!

So it turns out I wasn't done for the week... Hope no one objects, but I'm adding a couple more. We spent the weekend in Lincoln County, Nevada, and since our last adventure there involved failed Milky Way photos (wrong time of year and not quite the right time of the month), I was determined to try again. I just recently acquired a little Neewer 160 LED dimmable light panel specifically for adding low level light to nightscapes and so gave it a bit of a workout in Cathedral Gorge State Park.

And then there is this. It's just a snapshot really, but that is my photo in the center of the billboard. My daughter kindly agreed to strike the same pose as she had in the original photo. Ha. I've been anxiously waiting to see the billboard for a few months now, so it was fun to finally go down and see how it turned out.

Thanks! I'd like it better if we had done better with the light inside the water tower, but I'll take it.

We asked her to wear the same clothes she had worn for the original photo (which was taken back in November when it was much, much cooler), and she was kind enough to oblige so we could take this silly photo of her looking at herself.

Nope, I still like it.  It looks great as is!!  It's a good counterpoint to the stars above.

Ha ha! Thanks. We added the light but wanted to diffuse it and had only a purple rag...otherwise it might have been a nice golden color rather than that weird orangey-magenta. I've tinkered lightly with the tint in Lightroom and will eventually try to change it in Photoshop. Someday. When I have time. (Insert hysterical laughter here--what is time?)

It is a great camera! But hey, it looks like you're doing great with your Pentax too, so maybe there is no rush to get the D810? Regardless, I hope you're able to get your D810 sometime soon. Good luck!

Not much time for cameras - or, more accurately, I haven't seemed to have a camera handy when I saw a photo I wanted to shoot...I was out on the deck and saw the boys down on the dock...no camera, so grabbed my phone and shot this...not so much for the boys, but for the clouds and colors...I swear I straightened it but it looks a bit off still, so maybe I didn't...

IMG_3234.jpg

Hopefully I will get the big guns out there soon!

Oh - and Nicole...GREAT shot of the Milky Way and love the billboard shot too!  Congrats on the billboard!!!  I definitely need to chat with you about some of your night images...I want to try some of that at the new place where there is little to no light pollutions...
