Setup: D300s with 70-300mm f/4.5 - 5.6G IF-ED. Setting: center point AF (9 point dynamic), focal length set to 300mm, AF-S or AF-C
Issue: If I focus on something near the minimum distance of 6-8 feet and then try to refocus on something far (>100 feet) it will not focus. Instead, it'll set the focus distance to minimum. Same thing happens If I manually set the focus ring to ~8 feet and then try to focus on a distant object, it sweeps to minimum distance and stays there.

After hours of frustration, I noticed that, if I move the AF point one spot off center (any direction), AF functions normally.

Has anyone experienced this, or have heard of it happening? I tried the lens on a 7100 and seemed to work fine. Hope this is not a camera settings issue.

Currently on a trip so don't have access to the user manual. Will take it to the camera shop once I get back.
