I have three cameras--a D5, D500, and D810--and I have the same intermittent problem with all of them:  At times, I am unable to move the focus point from whatever position it happens to be in.  Camera and lens are in AF.  AF mode is not Group (usually S, sometimes d25).  The focus selector is not locked.  If I turn the camera off, then turn it back on, the focus point "unfreezes."  But that's annoying.  Any idea what it might be?

Could it be that the camera has gone into power save mode? I sometimes have to wake it by a shutter half-press to be able to change the EC, adjust the aperture or move the focus point.

Merco, Thanks very much.  I don't find any "power save" in a search of the manuals, but I'm thinking your reference is to the "Standby Timer" feature?  It may be all I need to do is press the shutter release halfway instead of shutting the camera off and turning it back on.  I'll give it a try.  Thanks, again.

Sorry about the terminology... I sometimes translate from what I have read in the Swedish manuals instead of looking it up in an English version. The Standby Timer is called "Strömsparläge" in Swedish, which translates to Power Save Mode. That is exactly what I meant.

Yep. This sounds like the issue. Just give the shutter a half press to bring it back to life.
