Nikon d3300, budget zoom lens for zoo

Hi, this is my first post. I have got a Nikon d3300 with the basic kit lens 18-55 and wanting something with more zoom for when I got to the zoo etc. I've been looking at a sigma 70-300mm macro/telephoto lens would this be a good place to start thanks all, greg

I have no experience with the Sigma lens so I'll leave it to others to comment on that. I personally use and am very fond of Nikon's AF-S 70-300 VR lens. It almost lives on my D7000. It's sharp wide open and with it's vibration reduction it's hand holdable at shutter speeds that would otherwise require a tripod. It's not cheap but not expensive either.

And the 55-200mm VRII is actually sharper and cleaner for about a third of the price right now (US$150). It all depends on whether you need that extra hundred millimeters.
