New forum member - first question.

I have a D70 I've owned since 2004 (bought new).

I've been having increasing issues with the body reading my blank, formatted cards when inserted.  I get a "CHR" message or no read at all.

Today two of my images were corrupted.  I'll attach a sample.

I was going to send it into Nikon but wanted to see what help I could find among the Nikon community.

I appreciate your insight.

There are three faults that all can give the CHA error.

  1. A pin that doesn't engage in the card, can usually be seen as it isn't straight. If you shine a light in the card socket, it will be very visible.
  2. A corrupted card. CF cards don't have infinite life. If the CHA error goes away with a new card, this is the problem.
  3. Something wrong with the CF bus electronics.

If it is either 1 or 3, the cost will probably be more than it is worth, unless you absolutely want the CCD colour rendering. A D200 or D300 doesn't cost much anymore, neither does a D7000.
