Hi All,

I am soliciting tips from folks regarding their Nikon's.  I am looking to buy a not too expensive camera and a macro, 35mm and telefoto lens.  I'd appreciate folk's input, recommendations.

Thanks for your time,

Jenny

I am surprised you haven't gotten a responce. I just got a used Nikon D7200 pretty reasonable from B&H, love it. I have lots of lens from my film days.

Good luck

I am surprised you haven't gotten a responce.

It's easy for these "say hello" threads to get lost, unfortunately. Better to post in different area of the forum--one specific to the question you have. I'm not sure how so many of these "say hello" threads get buried, but I'll go in every now and then and see that we have several folks who have never been responded to from months ago. :(

Jenny, if you have stuck around at all (your original question is from back in March), there are lots of questions we'd have before we could give solid advice. Can you be more specific about your budget? "Not too expensive" for me might be far different for you for example. (A D810 wasn't too expensive for me, but a D5 sure was.)

What do you plan to use your gear for? The range in available telephotos is so huge that it's hard to advise someone on which to buy unless you know what they want to use it for.

Do you want a full-frame sensor or a cropped sensor? The answer to that question will influence which macro lens you buy.

Lots and lots of questions--these are just a few. If you're still around, there are lots friendly and knowledgeable folks who are always happy to help (as long as they see your post). Hopefully, the fact that Del g and I have responded will bump your post back up to where it will be seen.

I too am just seeing this post for the first time. I'm sorry it got lost but Nicole is right, your question probably would have been answered sooner if you had posted in the appropriate subtopic.

She's also right about us needing to know a bit more about what your photographic goals are. You don't need to be too specific but the more info we have, the better our suggestions will be.

Oh and welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the forums Jenny!

The "say hello" threads tend to get buried as they don't show as new and unread as they are so often posted while the poster's status is pending.

The Nikonian title is one that the system sets as we pass 1000 posts.

Nicole is right in that we need to know a bit more of your needs and budget to help out.

I suspect that you're going to get a lot of different answers to your questions. The budget issue is very relevant but you said that, like me, you want to buy used gear to save pennies (actually, I don't do it to save pennnies, I do it because I don't have many pennies to begin with!).

I would suggest that economy involves a bit of future-proofing by way of buying proven and reliable technology. I have a D610, which I think is a superb camera (bought used two or three years ago). It is capable of great results and you'd have to be into some pretty specialised photography to grow out of it very quickly.
