We had quite a discussion about third-party batteries back in August. To me, the third-party offerings aren't worth the hassle.

I stick with Nikon batteries. I've had grief with aftermarket laptop batteries, I don't imagine camera ones are any different.
Having said that, given the I get over a thousand shots per charge out of my D610, I only carry one spare, so I don't have that much experience of them. I went through more when I was shooting Micro Four Thirds but, again, I used original batteries only.
I had 1 original and 3 cheaper for my D5200, one of the cheap ones went bust, 2 others work fine..
For my D800E, I use 2 cheap alternatives, I managed to get close to 2000 pics without swapping battery using 150-600 lens for flights during an airshow.
I've always used third party batteries. My luck with camera batteries in Nikons has been great. While my genuine Nikons seem to perform somewhat better, but my off-brand ones were enough of a discount I considered them more than worthwhile, since I'm not the short of shooter that needs every drop of possible performance for every battery, but to have spares to swap out that do reasonably.
Now, the off-brand Olympus batts I used on my M4/3 camera were another story. Eventually, both of them swelled and got stuck in the camera, so buyer beware.
I am purchased what I thought were legit Nikon batteries from Amazon only to discover that they were knock-off and were inferior to the legit batteries from Nikon. I reminded myself that I spent a lot of money for my camera and equipment so why skimp on a battery - the price difference is only a couple of trips to Starbucks
