I have an issue that I hope someone can help me address.

I have been shooting with a Nikon D5200 for a few years now and enjoying the being able to use the factory supplied View NX2 to upload, sort, and edit photos using a laptop with Windows Vista OS.

Recently (end of November) I purchased a new laptop (Dell 3552 1500) with Windows 10 OS. I downloaded the newest version of View NX2 to use on this laptop. Since that time uploading, sorting and editing has gotten progressively more difficult.

It has now reached the point where View NX2 does not recognize the SD card or tethered camera. I am on an editorial deadline and have had to resort to using Windows File Explorer to do all my photo sorting because I can no longer move photo files between File Explorer and View.

My inclination is to finally break down and buy Photoshop Lightroom but my concern is that will not correct the issues I'm having. A frantic internet search reveals that others have had this issue to some degree but I have yet to find a solution to the problem.

Can anyone offer advice?

Why ViewNX 2? It has been abandonware since January 2015. ViewNX-i is the current generation. Capture NX-D is free and gives quite a bit more possibilities when it comes to editing than ViewNX ever did.

If you feel that you need a DAM solution, PhotoMechanic does a better job than Lightroom as it can handle the full IPTC set of keywords and other metadata. If you want to stay Adobe-free, Affinity, Photo Ninja, DxO or Capture NX-D all work well for raw conversions and editing.
