This week, I will be shooting with the MicroNikkor 105/4 on a D300. I will probably do some hand-held detail shots mid-day most days as well as some focus stacks at home in the evenings.

If somebody else wants to play, feel free to join me in shooting this week.

I'll be using my D7100 and shooting with the 40mm AF-S Micro Nikkor f/2.8 -- probably mostly closeup/macro shots. Here are a few from today.

ISO 6400, shot in NEF-RAW, post processed with WIN10 photo editor and converted to JPEG images.

D610 with AF-S Nikkor 50mm f 1.4 G (my favourite lens!) and it'll be whatever crosses my field of vision - as usual...

I'm cooking dinner now but I'll post some of today's this evening:)

I love these. You live in a beautiful rural place. That dog is the saddest looking canine I've ever seen. Those eyes are amazing!

Thanks :) Yes, we do live in a beautiful place and there is never a day that passes when I don't appreciate it.

That dog, Nippa, is our youngest (we have four, all Lurchers of various types) she's five months old. She may look sad but, in reality, she is a violent little thug - I think she'd spotted a small bird in the hedge to camera left  and was wondering whether she could get it! :D

It is nice to be able to shoot deep stacks again. My old focusing rail was worn enough that I had problems getting more than 10 slices in the stack to register even with Zerene Stacker. I decided to go with a Novoflex again, the old one worked well for over 50 years after all. Some automation would have been nice, but a servo rail is simply too expensive for my use.

I have the files for another stack, but that will have to wait until tomorrow. I am too sleepy to work on it now.

Here is a little teaser that shows my macro rig.

Since everyone, well Peter and Alden anyway, is going with the close-up look this week, I thought I'd join in. Not having a macro lens at the moment, I'm making do with my trusty 50mm

This little pewter donkey is 104 slices and there are some glitches in the masks. I will probably reprocess this at a later date with some other software. PS isn't quite up to such deep stacks.

I know what you are doing in PS to create these excellent sharp images of tiny things, but I have no idea how you are doing it.

I no longer have a copy of PS. I had to reload Win 10 and lost it, and I don't have the disks.

Alden, it is a matter of setting things up carefully using manual flash, a precise focusing rail and lots of patience when shooting. The post work is just converting the raw files to a set of jpg-s with very little variation using a raw converter one really know, importing as layers in PS, letting PS adjust the layers and then mixing the layers in stack mode automatically. After PS has done it's automagical stuff comes the fun part of finding on what layer the auto-generated layer mask hasn't quite worked and adjust it.

Today, I paid my LBS a visit. I spotted a nice Focus road bike with Campagnolo Super Record EPS.

Still working on the same timepiece. Trying to capture the pure essence of it.

I shot this in RAW, made a cropped JPEG with Win10, and then used that and played with the "curves" in GIMP.
